FES International

The large network of FES-offices is one of the most important non-governmental global infrastructures for democracy promotion and international dialogue on central topics of international politics, globalisation and the economic, social and political development in the world.

Through activity in more than 100 countries the foundation is actively involved in the development and consolidation of civil society and state structures thus promoting democracy and social justice. The foundation's partners are political parties, trade unions, NGO's, research and political advisory institutes, but also state institutions such as parlaments and ministries.

In its international work, the foundation also contributes to peace and security while discussing the challenges on a global level advocating for active involvement of cititzens for the development and consolidation of their own civil society and state structures through promotion of democracy and social justice, strong and free trade unions, respecting human rights and gender equality.

The aim of our international work is to encourage and to enable people to engage actively in political life. We provide knowledge to promote participation in the process of political discussion and we contribute to disseminate the values people need to develop the conceptual skills they require to form autonomous judgements of their own. We will keep up these efforts. Now in its 85th year, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung continues to underline Friedrich Ebert's perception that "democracy needs democrats" and this remains the guiding principle of the FES' work in Germany but also in its offices throughout the world.
